Steve Henry from Franklin (Venango County) has sent in review of LG BD300 Blu-ray player.

November 18, 2008

This player is smaller than the previous model. It's about half as deep as every other Blu-ray players. Coming in at 17 inches wide by 8.75 inches deep by 2.38 inches high.On the far right are a couple playback controls accompanied by LCD screen. There is also a single blue indicator light which tells you if the player is outputting at 24 frames per second.

The included remote is pretty good. The center is dominated by a directional pad which is surrounded by important buttons. Toward the bottom are separate rockers for volume and channel changing for those who want to use the remote to control their TV as well.

This player is the first standalone Blu-ray player that is compatible with Blu-ray Profile 2.0 also known as BD-Live. This means it's capable of accessing Internet-enabled features available on some movies. Soundtrack support is outstanding on the DMP-BD50. It has onboard decoding for all high-resolution soundtrack formats including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio so you don't need a new receiver to take advantage of the improved audio quality.

If you play a regular dvd in this you will get upconversion (electronic conversion of the 480p video to 1080p video). This is my first Blu-Ray player and it couldn't have been an easier setup. Plugged it in and it was immediately ready for action. The Blu-Ray discs look fantastic as well as the upscaled DVD's. This is a great deal for any avid movie fan.
