Excellent entry model
I wanted a low priced Blu-ray player primarily for the upconversion of my existing dvds and the occasional Blu-ray rental. My first two purchases (other models) went back to the store for interminable wait times at power up and menu, and freezing while playing dvd's. I've had this Toshiba for several weeks now and I love it. Unlike some other reviewers I haven't encountered the whine on loading discs and the response time of the remote and disk load is fantastic. My dvds look so good that the kids want to use the television in my room instead of the family television now. I rented a few Blu-ray discs to test out the players lag time on those discs and was really impressed. There seemed to be no difference at all. I hooked it up with an HDMI cable and it was ready to go. Better performance than a higher priced model I tried. If you're looking for a low cost everyday unit without needing all the possible bells and whistles, this is definitely the way to go.

Nice!
The picture quality is great and the upconvert works fantastic. It is a very sharp looking player too. It can make a somewhat loud sound loading the disc but then not a sound from the player during a movie. The remote is very responsive too. We are extremely satisfied with this, I am still amazed at the clarity in the picture and would buy this again.

Good in price.. even better in performance
I was a bit scared of actually buying this BD player... Mainly because I live in Chile and several factors had to be taken into consideration, but BD player here are way too expensive (over $350 dollars).

As soon as I tried this BD player in my HDTV it started playing my movie right away, it took only seconds before I started watching the movie and sound was aazing too.

Upscaling is not bad at all. But one bad thing, for me (because I live in Chile) is that it won't play dvds other than sector 1 (here is 4) but that's not the BD player's fault, but over all I'm very happy for my purchase.. I got a great deal for low money.

Blu Ray
I've used it a few times and it works well. It was a free bonus when I bought my TV so the price was right.

Best Bang for the Buck!
I've had this player for a couple weeks now and I love it. I tested it with Planet Earth BD and it loaded fairly quickly and it plays beautifully. SD DVDs also load quickly and are unconverted very nicely. I don't really care that it does not have Wifi or Netflix streaming. I just want the option to play a blu-ray discs and this fits the bill perfectly. The ethernet port and SD card slot are more than enough for me.

Keep in mind that this machince will not play Xvid format. You need to convert it to DivX which is kind of annoying. The formats are pretty similar so I just don't see why they didn't just add the codecs for Xvid. This complaint is very minor since no blu-ray player in the price range plays Xvid.

My only real complaint is the cheapness of the remote. This is not really a big deal to me though since I have a universal remote.

Overall, I highly recommend this blu-ray player and think it is the best player in its price range. If you are patient you can probably buy this for less than $100. I paid $79.

Love this player!!
As a HD-DVD and Toshiba fan I held off on getting a Blu Ray player but as everbody around me was getting one I knew it wouldn't be long before I jumped to the blu ray camp. I waited for this player and I'm glad I did. The design is nice though the remote looks like frankenstien. Loading times are about the same as my HD DVD player, the menus and options make this player easy to set up and the picture quality is excellent!! I'm Watching Ghostbusters on blu ray and it looks amazing. Thank you Toshiba for joining the blu ray camp!! 5 stars!

Very nice for the price
I purchased this from Amazon.com on Black Friday (caught it in that small window of opportunity when the price was $79.97). While it doesn't appear to be a true Toshiba product (its made by Funai, as are Magnavox, Sylvania, Philips and some Onkyo and Denon Blu-Ray players), its still from a proven, reliable source. The load times are quite short, but the unit is a bit noisy while it does the preparation (lots of whirring and buzzing). Blu-Ray playback is great - crisp and clean with no freezing or hiccups that seem to plague many other players (fingers crossed). The remote is large and lightweight and is the same intuitive Funai design found on many other company's players. The player responds to commands from the remote almost as fast as a DVD player, much better than most Blu-Ray players. The only stumbling point is SD-DVD play back. I own a Toshiba XDE-600 DVD player and its head and shoulders above this Blu-Ray in upscaling image quality. With the pair of them I have the best of both worlds.

While the BDX2000 isn't the most feature-rich player on the market (no streaming options of any kind) that is of no consequence to me. I don't plan on using the BD Live feature it does support and have no interest in streaming video. For a simple, solid player I'm very pleased with the price I paid. Basically, watch and catch it on a good sale.
